Emergency Dental Services in Salem

Dental Emergencies addressed by Healthy Smiles Family Dental Salem OR dentistIt never fails. You are gone on a trip, out for a family function, or enjoying a sporting event, and something happens and one of your teeth gets injured or starts hurting for no reason you can think of. The pain is overwhelming, but it is not during traditional business hours. Luckily for you, Dr. Xu takes on dental emergencies at Healthy Smiles Family Dental. All you have to do is give us a call.

The Most Common Types of Dental Emergencies

There are many different types of dental emergencies out there. If you get hit in the mouth and have suffered some type of an injury directly to your gums or your teeth, you need to see someone immediately. If you cannot get a hold of someone at our office, consider going to your local emergency room. However, if you are suffering from another type of dental emergency, let us see you so that you can be sure you are getting the best localized and specialized care possible. Traditional dental emergencies include:
•  Inexplicable toothache &ndash
•  For this, start by rinsing your mouth and making sure there is nothing pushing against the tooth or stuck between this tooth and another adjacent tooth. If not, call us.
•  Broken or chipped tooth - Clean out your mouth and rinse it to get any extra pieces out of your mouth, but save all of the pieces you can find. Keep the pieces, and apply ice packs in 15 minute cycles if necessary to keep swelling down, and give us a call.
•  Knocked-out tooth - First, you need to get the tooth and hold it by the chewing surface you would normally see in your mouth. If it is dirty, rinse it under water, then reinsert it into your mouth if you can. If not, you can keep the tooth in a little cold milk, or a little bit of water with only a pinch of salt in it. Call us right away.
•  Dislodged tooth - When dealing with a tooth that is only partially dislodged, you need to keep the area clean, and get to our office as quickly as you can. If you are experiencing pain, take an over-the-counter analgesic, like Advil or Tylenol.
•  Lost filling - Call us as soon as a filling falls out, so we can do our best to replace it as soon as possible. If you are out and cannot get in our office immediately, a piece of sugarless gum can protect the area temporarily.
•  Lost crown - Keep the crown and try and put it back over the tooth it belongs to. If you are unable to get in to see us right away, use over the counter denture cement for now, but never use any type of super glue or rubber cement.

If you or a family member is experiencing any of the following symptoms, such as:

•  Toothaches
•  Abscessed Tooth
•  Swollen Teeth, Cheek, and Lips
•  Broken Teeth, Temporary Crown Issues
•  Knocked Out Teeth
•  Cut Tongue
•  Bitten Tongue
•  Cut Lip
